The BIOAGRO-project – a unic cooperation between Skånefrö and HOTAB, ranked as number 13 of 700 projects within the EU-LIFE programme (2005/2006)
The BIOAGRO project consists of research, development, demonstration and plays a decisive role to reach the environmental goals founded by the EU.
The BIOAGRO project intends to demonstrate an innovative technique that render it possible for grains and seed waste to be transformed into energy in a well functional circle, where all parts in a construction (including a pellet machine, boilers etc.) work together in an optimal way and that the waste can be returned as nourishment substances to the fields.
The project will be carried out by Skånefrö and HOTAB. They have begun a very good and positive cooperation, that looks very promising for the future.
Skånefrö’s part in the project includes planning, preparation, construction of the building and installation of machines – prototypes and equipment. The silos will be designed with a special feed mechanism for difficult and bulky raw materials with low bulk density as seed waste etc. Transport arrangements, mixture constructions, pellet machines and the boilers, will be installed so that the flow easily can be followed. The innovative method will be demonstrated in a foreseeable way, all for the visitors.
Hotab is developing a completely new boiler design that will be demonstrated in the project. This involves a full-scale demonstration, evaluations and possible modification of two boilers with the sizes of 250 kW and 1250 kW.

The BIOAGRO project offers an innovative method that is applicable to the whole of Sweden’s and Europe’s agricultural sector, which constitutes in a final breakthrough in the ways of finding alternatives to fossil fuel and with the potential that it will lower the discharge of greenhouse gases in Europe considerably.
