The BIOAGRO project:
Innovative method for reduction of greenhouse gases and waste from the agriculture sector
Today, we see an increasing understanding that fossil energy leads to global climate effects by larger discharge of greenhouse gases. The challenge is to find alternatives to replace fossil energy. The objective of the BIOAGRO project is to demonstrate an innovative method to produce and use a high-quality pelletized fuel from grain, waste from grain, seed and grass in a small scale. The pellets will be demonstrated in small units (pelleting machine, heating boilers, burners) easily adapted to different agricultural crops, enabling quick change between different recipes with and without additives. Mixtures of additives together with seed waste will produce a homogenous, cost effective agro fuel (pellet) with low environmental impact. Skånefrö’s use of oil and electricity for heating will be replaced by permanent fuel produced heat originating from its own seed production.
The most of the raw material comes direct from Skånefrö AB manufacturing process.
BIOAGRO comprises a decisive contribution to meet the environmental objectives set by the European Union in the 6th   Environment Action Program and LIFE Environment, as the project will reduce the discharge of greenhouse gases and waste substantially.
The BIOAGRO project will be carried out by Skånefrö AB (beneficiary) in close cooperation with Hotab (partner) and other companies and organisations. The innovative method will be demonstrated and evaluated in a fully integrated process where all relevant parts, including recipes and prototypes will be demonstrated.
The BIOAGRO project will demonstrate an innovative method to reduce the discharges of greenhouse gases by using energy from grain, waste from grain, seed and grass to produce heat.

The BIOAGRO project offers an innovative method which is transferable to the whole European agriculture sector, constituting a conclusive breakthrough in finding alternative to fossil energy and with that the potential to substantially reduce the discharges of greenhouse gases in Europe.

BIOAGRO is the 13th of more than 700 applications upon LIFE:s (EU) ranking list (2005/2006)
